When it comes to brunch cocktails, the Bloody Mary is a classic—but sometimes vodka just isn’t bringing enough personality to the party. Enter the Bourbon Bloody Mary. I first made this smoky, savory twist for Easter brunch, swapping vodka for bourbon and layering in BBQ flavors for a drink that feels a little more Southern and a lot more bold.
This version is rich, savory, and unapologetically flavorful. If you like your brunch drinks with depth—and maybe a side of bacon—this one’s for you.
Why Bourbon?
Bourbon adds a deep, smoky flavor to the Bloody Mary, complementing the tangy tomato juice and spicy elements perfectly. It gives the cocktail a richness that balances out the acidity, making this drink feel heartier and more satisfying. Plus, bourbon’s sweet, caramel notes pair beautifully with the BBQ dry rub, elevating the cocktail into something truly special.

Notes from the Kitchen:
Go Big with Ice: Using large ice cubes is key for this cocktail. They melt slower than regular ice, keeping your drink cool without diluting those bold flavors too quickly.
BBQ Rub Variety: Don’t be afraid to try different BBQ dry rubs. A spicier rub will add more heat, while a sweeter rub will bring out the bourbon’s caramel notes even more.
Garnish Like a Pro: Go all out with your garnishes! In addition to bacon and pickled vegetables, you can add items like cheese cubes, shrimp, or even a rib for a truly Instagram-worthy cocktail.
